UX/UI Design for Mobile and Web

UX Design for survivors of sexual assault. This project eases the transition of the survivor back into the investigation, it also allows continuous contact between law enforcement, crisis advocate, and survivor. This puts the power back into the hands of the survivor.

2016 Project Phoenix:  A Mobile application to enhance communication between survivors of sexual assault, law enforcement, and crisis advocates.

PROBLEM 1:
When survivors of sexual assault are reintroduced into their investigation years later, after law enforcement discovers a hit in CODIS on their DNA, it is abrupt and disruptive to survivors who want to forget. They want more control over their introduction back into the justice system.

PROBLEM 2:
Law Enforcement wants a better way to keep track of survivors in case there is a change in their case. Many survivors move, or do not keep the police updated with address or phone changes.

HOW PROJECT PHOENIX HELPS:
Because the survivor is given a login number at the time her sexual assault RAPE kit exam is done, an account will be waiting for her when she wishes to login. She sets up the account with her crisis advocate after the rape kit exam and is given her private access login. Primary notifications are set at the exam. When law enforcement logs in and reports a change in her case, the survivor is alerted via phone notification. This also allows Law Enforcement to keep track of survivors as they continually update information.

PROCESS:
We interviewed:
Sexual Assault Nurses, Police Officers, and Survivors of Sexual Assault
This allowed us to narrow our focus onto the survivor.

I polled:
Users to help us create application design that was "softer" and more calming than our first iteration.

I created:
Storyboards to help us share one survivors story.
A video to present our vision and present our product.
Deliverable handouts and presentation props for judges during the presentation. (Our product won)

TAKEAWAYS:
Survivors CAN have control over when they review that message.

They CAN have control over how to contact their investigator and crisis advocate.

They CAN easily communicate with other survivors in a discreet and private forum.
